Daniel “Dan” Michael Dunn passed away peacefully on Monday, May 6, 2024, at the age of 75, at Cottonwood Creek Assisted Living surrounded by his loving family after a hard-fought battle with Alzheimer’s.

Dan was born on Tuesday, March 15, 1949, to Delmar “Dale” and Bernice “Becky” (Henggeler) Dunn in Osceola, Nebraska. He was the oldest of four siblings. His childhood was spent on the family farm that he cherished and worked hard on. He was a talented football and basketball player. After graduating from Osceola High School in 1967 he enlisted in the United States Army Reserve and served in the Military Police Company in Columbus, Nebraska until his honorable discharge in 1971. He then moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where he served in theAir National Guard as a Reserve of theAir Force until 1974.

While living in Lincoln, he met Sharon Bosak and they were married in July of 1970. They shared three children together. He became an entrepreneur when he purchased his Uncle Norm’s business and changed the name to Dan’s Wrought Iron, specializing in wrought iron railings for homes and apartment complexes.

In 1979 Dan moved his family to Wheatland, Wyoming and went to work for Basin Electric Power Plant as a plant operator. He was a committed employee for 32 years and retired from the plant in 2011.

On May 16, 1987, he married Lynda O’Neil Nelson and shared the next 23 years raising a family and celebrating life until her death in 2010.

Dan will be deeply missed by Linda Conrad, his cherished partner for the last 13 years, who was his love, best friend, constant companion, and the person who dedicated her heart and soul to him as his caregiver throughout his illness.

Dan loved to fish, adored classic cars, 60’s music and was known for his gift of gab as he never met a stranger. His grandchildren will remember his constant presence at hot basketball games, long swim meets, freezing soccer games, rodeos, and endless school programs cheering them on. His loved ones will hold dear the memory of his sense of humor, his steadfast dedication to family, and the twinkle in his eyes when he smiled (along with the toothpick always tucked in the corner of that smile).

Dan is survived by his three children, Kelly Ornelas (Anthony), Kim Gerig (Matt Thomas), and Kenny Dunn (Amanda Carson); two step-children, Renee Chebotarev and Clint Nelson; his siblings, Denise Johnston (Jeff), Deb Bridges, and Murray Dunn; thirteen grandchildren, Madison Shippy and Carrington Ornelas, Lucas, Mia and McKay Gerig, Beckam and Zane Dunn, Meile Weatherill (Cole), and Gracie and Nathan Chebotarev, Justus, Noah and Hannah Nelson; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
