Twyla Gwen Carlson, 55, of Polk, Nebraska died Monday, May 20, 2024, at Merrick Medical Center in Central City. Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at High Prairie Community Church in Polk with Pastor Justin Smith officiating. Visitation will be Monday, May 27, 2024, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Swede Plain Cemetery.

Twyla was born on April 23, 1969, in Osceola, Nebraska to Gordon and Alice (Johnson) Carlson. She grew up on their farm between Polk and Stromsburg graduating from Polk High School in 1987. She worked at Midwest Covenant Home as a Nurse’sAide all through high school. She then moved to Lincoln and attended the College of Hair Design. She lived in Lincoln for 10 years. In 1996, she was united in marriage to Russell Prentiss. To this union a daughter was born - Alyse Lillian Lorraine Carlson. In 1997, they moved to Kearney. She then moved back to Polk in 1999 where she continued doing hair before opening her own shop, “The Mane Barber,” in 2009. She also worked part time for Cabela’s for 20 years.

Twyla was baptized in the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Osceola, Nebraska. She attended Swede Plain Church near Polk until its closing. She then continued her Bible learning at the Evangelical Free Church of Polk, Nebraska. Later on, Twyla taught Sunday School at the Polk E-Free Church, which then became High Prairie Community Church, for 20 years. She was very involved with the Polk Community Vacation Bible School and Polk County 4-H.

Twyla enjoyed attending her daughter Alyse’s activities. To Twyla,Alyse was her whole world. She enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews. She also enjoyed sewing, crafts, fishing, and vacationing with family. Twyla was Alyse’s and all of her nieces and nephews’ biggest fan. She was always there for them whether it was watching them show their horses or any of their many show animals, attending all their various school activities, helping with any craft/ project/costume, or just lending an ear. She was a loving mother, sister, aunt, and best friend to many.

She is survived by her daughter Alyse Carlson (Andrew Henely) of Fairmont, NE; sister Lisa (Mike) Howell of Polk, NE; brother in law Larry Gulbrandson of Polk, NE; nephew Gordon Gulbrandson (Kaitlyn Winter) of Polk, NE; nieces and nephews Gordona, Allie, and Colin Howell of Polk, NE and Tanner Howell of Lincoln, NE; aunt Betsy Johnson of Lincoln, NE; many cousins, other family, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Gordon and Alice Carlson; and her sister Sheila Gulbrandson.
